The First

I'm 3 1/2 weeks out from my first mma fight. It's an amateur fight in Vegas through the promotion Tuff'N'Uff

Paige Zio is the pseudonym I'm fighting under - keep it separate from my 'real' job, and take my boy's pseudonym last name. K, that last part is probably cheesy, but I like it :)

I'm doing double days. Cardio/strength training in the morning; technique and sparring in the evenings. Back and forth between Fight and Fitness in San Francisco and Gracie Fighter in Berkeley. I feel strong and my stand up has come along really well over the last few weeks. The things that gets me the most about mma is how there always so much to learn, so many ways to develop. It's awesome. I'm getting a small taste of where I can take myself as a fighter...

Training for this fight has been the first time I've ever worked with a personal trainer, and it's huge to have someone to really push me. Noah kicks my ass and works in a good mix of explosive power and conditioning. I've been building muscle and dropping body fat; which so far has meant my weight has stayed about the same. Soon I'll really need to check my calorie intake and drop a few more pounds of fat before the fight. The rest will be water weight.

I'm looking at my first mma fight as a test and a learning ground. I'm totally excited!

More to come...
